Dr. Edna V. Baehre‐Kolovani, Tidewater Community College’s fifth president, assumed the presidency in July 2012 and brought to the college a passion for inclusion and participation.
Her first priority: To build on TCC’s success and formulate a college‐wide strategic plan to guide the operations of the college over the next five years. To do this, she employed a process called Appreciative Inquiry (AI), which is based on the idea that every organization has positive attributes when it is most effective, successful, and connected to its stakeholders.
Through AI open meetings with faculty and staff over a period of weeks, three attributes emerged that constitute TCC’s “positive core”:
The resulting plan is a mere seven pages, but it lays out the college’s goals, objectives and measurable results to leverage these attributes over the next five years.
While TCC seeks to preserve its best practices, it also seeks to innovate and become a more efficient and effective resource for the South Hampton Roads community and its citizenry.
Moving forward, the strategic plan will be organized into annual goals and objectives that will form the basis of the college’s work.
