PSYCHOLOGY FACULTY at the
|Dr. Glenn E. “Bert” Fox, Jr.
Dr. Fox is the lead faculty member in Psychology. He received his
B.S. degree from Virginia Tech, his M.A. degree from Radford University,
and his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. Prior to coming to Chesapeake, he
was on Child Development/Early Childhood faculty in the department
of Human Development at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He is the
author of three published articles, and a number of other works. He
has given presentations at local, state, regional, and national conferences.
His multifaceted past includes being a counselor for children, families,
and individuals, a researcher, a preschool teacher, and a traveling
adjunct faculty member. He teaches Introductory Psychology, Child
Psychology, and Psychology of Human Sexuality.
Dr. Fox lives in Portsmouth with his wife, 4-year-old daughter, and
their 15-year-old German Shepherd-Siberian Husky, Runner, known as
the “$140,000 dog.”
|Dr. Gerald Mayhew
Dr Mayhew is Professor of Psychology and Developmental Disabilities
and serves as the head of the Special Education/Developmental Disabilities
Program at TCC. He received his BA & Ph.D. in psychology from
Arizona State University. He has had teaching experience at both the
graduate and undergraduate level. Prior to coming to TCC he also had
administrative experience in human services agencies and was a licensed
psychologist and certified school psychologist. Dr Mayhew’s
professional interests include improving services for persons with
developmental disabilities, applied behavior analysis and increasing
social skills. He has published articles in: The American Journal
on Mental Retardation, Behavior Modification, and the Journal on Behavior
Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry among others. He has also written
grants for nearly 1 million dollars for the purpose of providing training
to students pursuing careers in special education/ developmental disabilities.
Dr Mayhew lives in Chesapeake with his wife and two collies, Holly
and Monty Python.
