2001 Cable Car Competition
2001 Cable Car Competition
On Friday, February 23, 2001, the TCC Engineering
Club hosted a Cable Car Competition. The goal of the contest was
to build a cable car that could propel itself along a 125' cable over TCC's
lake. The cable car had to be built using an 11,500 rpm, 12V DC motor
from Radio Shack and a 9V battery. Of the 21 cable cars that were
entered in the competition, 11 made it across the lake as required, and
two ended up on the bottom of the lake! The first place prize went
to Brandon Belford whose car, built using a computer mouse, completed the
course in an amazing 10.20 seconds! Matt Jones, shown in his kayak
in the background, provided a valuable service in rescuing stalled cable
cars. In the background photo, notice the cable car just over Matt's
head!
