Liebherr
is a manufacturer of construction equipment. You have probably seen
Liebherr backhoes, bulldozers, and other equipment at construction sites.
The Liebherr facility in Newport News designs and builds mining trucks
- HUGE mining trucks. They are currently working on an order for
six 240-ton mining trucks to be shipped to Austrailia. These trucks
have 12 foot diameter wheels and five flatbed trucks are used to transport
one truck to the nearby marine terminals for shipping. The date for
this field trip has been chosen to coincide with the completion of the
first mining truck. A former TCC Engineering student that later graduated
with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from ODU will give us the tour.
