Program Training

The TCC training and curriculum are sponsored and supported by grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that were awarded to TCC, five research institutions (Columbia University, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Oregon Health Sciences University), and numerous community college partners. 

TCC is offering specialized training for individuals with IT backgrounds, healthcare backgrounds, and/or other relevant business, training, or consulting backgrounds. The two specialized training tracks are:

 

  • Health IT Specialist – designed for individuals with IT backgrounds

    • This track is designed specifically for individuals with IT backgrounds (e.g., A+ and Network+ certifications or comparable skills and work experience)  
    • It provides training and hands-on experience needed to be competitive in the Health IT market.
    • Participants will develop and understanding of terminology and topics related to implementation and management of electronic health record systems, as well as gaining experience configuring and managing EHR systems.
  • Health IT Engineering– designed for individuals with IT backgrounds

 

    • This track is designed specifically for individuals with IT backgrounds (e.g., A+ and Network+ certifications or comparable skills and work experience)  
    • It provides training to equip individuals to assume a technical role within public and/or private healthcare settings, whether as an employed professional or contract worker.
    • Upon successful completion, graduates will be competent in configuring, maintaining, and optimizing an EHR system. They will also acquire an appreciation for the history and culture of the healthcare workplace, professional expectations with in the healthcare field, and relevant medical terminology.
  • Health IT Consulting– designed for individuals with healthcare or other relevant backgrounds
    • This track focuses on professionals with healthcare and/or relevant business, training, or consulting backgrounds.
    • It provides training to equip individuals to assume a managerial or consulting role within public and/or private healthcare settings, whether as an employed professional or outside consultant.
    • Upon successful completion, graduates will be competent in workflow process analysis and redesign, project management, continuous quality improvement, general knowledge of computer information systems, and a strong working knowledge of EHR systems.
