its own certification exam.

Course Description
The 3, 1 credit Mammography Courses are offered through Distance
Learning. Computer competency and self-motivation are required
for successful completion of these online classes.
Anatomy and Positioning of the Breast
RAD 233 • 1 credit
Presents the risk factors for breast disease, anatomy and physiology
of the breast and discusses the various pathologies identified
through mammography. Includes routine and special projections of
the breast. Prerequisite: ARRT or eligible. Lecture 1 hour per
week.
Breast Imaging/Instrumentation
RAD 234 • 1 credit
Discusses the dedicated radiography equipment necessary for breast
imaging. Includes proper technical factors, radiation protection
techniques, and proper accessory equipment. Prerequisite: ARRT
or eligible. Lecture 1 hour per week.
Quality Assurance in Mammography
RAD 235 • 1 credit
Discusses the components of quality assurance in mammography and
the accreditation programs developed to ensure quality in breast
imaging facilities. Prerequisite: ARRT or eligible. Lecture 1 hour
per week
Tidewater Community College is accredited by
the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools to award the Associate Degree.

- Prepare the student didactically for the ARRT advanced registry
in Mammography
- Provide continuing education to the registered mammography
technologist

Admission Requirements
- Student must be an ARRT Registered
Technologist, or must be registry eligible.
- The student must obtain permission
from an FDA approved mammography facility to perform a clinical rotation.
- Students must be admitted to
Tidewater Community College.
- Students must register in advance
and submit payment upon registration
