Sand Replenishment Monitoring Project ~ Sandbridge
Background
Since the fall of 1984, Geology
105 and Oceanography
112 students at TCC have been conducting their class field
trips to Little Island Park in Virginia Beach. The lab projects
give our students experience in making field observations, data
reduction, and interpretation. Getting our students out of the
more traditional classroom/lab setting has proven to be an effective
way of teaching these processes.
When the sand replenishment project started in the Sandbridge
area in May 1998, we felt it would be a good opportunity to study
the effects of additional sand input in Little Island Park. We
anticipate this to be an on-going monitoring project for a minimum
of 5 years.
Results
The sketches and profiles are a little rough but please bear
