Transfer credit to TCC

Transferring credits to TCC allows your previous academic study, examination, or career experience to be evaluated for possible college credit.

Types of credit evaluated

The following types of transfer credit are accepted for evaluation by Tidewater Community College:

Academic credit

Credit earned from courses taken at regionally or nationally accredited colleges and universities in the United States and abroad 
Academic transfer credit information

Military experience

Experience from military service and related training
Military transfer credit information

Non-collegiate experience

Experience from professional certificates and licenses
Experiential transfer credit information

Experiential

Experience from work history or knowledge gained outside the classroom
Experiential transfer credit information

Exam credits

Credit from standardized exams (Advanced Placement, Cambridge International, CLEP, DANTES/DSST, Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT), Excelsior College/UEXCEL, and International Baccalaureate) and TCC Challenge Exams

Transfer credit evaluation timeline

We encourage you to submit any previously-earned college credits, exam scores, certificates, licensures or military experience prior to enrolling in your first term at TCC. However, your information will not be evaluated by the Office of the College Registrar for transfer credit processing until after the academic drop deadline during your first term.​


TCC awards credit only for courses in which a grade of C or higher was earned, and only for classes applicable to your selected program of study. Only students who are enrolled in a degree or certificate program may request an evaluation of previously-earned credits.
