You are a transfer student if you have previously enrolled at another college (or colleges) and intend to pursue your degree or certificate at TCC.

Generally, if you are eligible for re-entry at your previous institution, you are eligible for admission to TCC.

So, welcome. Follow the steps below to ensure a smooth admission process.

Follow these steps

Step 1: Apply for Admission & Activate Your Student Account

Apply to TCC using our free online application. You can save your application and finish it later.

After you complete the application, you will receive a confirmation email with immediate feedback on your application status and a link to set up your student account through the myTCC portal.

Step 2: Apply for Financial Aid

Planning to use financial aid? Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form at

The FAFSA code for TCC is 003712, which must be listed on the FAFSA form in order for TCC to receive your information.

Step 3: Review Your To Do List

Log into your myTCC Portal and click the Navigate icon. Navigate is where you will be able to review and complete your to-do list, and make an appointment with an academic advisor. 

Step 4: Demonstrate College Readiness

TCC uses multiple measures, including the Virginia Placement Test, to determine a student’s readiness for college-level English and math courses.

You may be exempt from placement tests if you can demonstrate your readiness with previous high school course work, SAT/ACT scores and other criteria.

Step 5: Meet with Your Advisor

TCC’s academic advisors will help you select an academic program, register for classes and build a course schedule that fits your busy life. All new, curricular students are required to meet with an academic advisor before registering for their first semester.

Step 6: Attend Orientation

Prepare to transition into college successfully by attending a free Orientation session on the campus where you’ll take most of your classes. Your family is welcome to attend, too!

Step 7: Register for Classes

You can browse available class schedules and register for classes through the Student Information System, located in myTCC. For more information, visit​​​​​​​ Once you have registered, pay your tuition by the tuition deadline to avoid being dropped from your classes. You can find payment options and deadlines at​​​​​​​

Step 8: Transfer Your Credits and Previous Experiences

Your previous experiences and college credits can be evaluated by the Office of the College Registrar for applicable credit toward your degree or certificate.

Here's how to get started.

1. Be accepted for admission to TCC

2. Select an associate degree or certificate program

3. Have your official transcripts* mailed to:

4. Submit a Request Transfer Evaluation.

Evaluations are generally completed during your first semester at TCC. Evaluations are curriculum-specific. If you change your major, a new evaluation will be necessary.

5. See how your credits may transfer.  Use the Transfer Evaluation System (TES) as a guide to see which courses you may be eligible to receive from your previous institutions.

* An official transcript must be in the sealed, original envelope from the issuing institution, with the appropriate college seal and authentication.
