|October 24, 2014||Blackboard Learn Test will be unavailable Monday, October 27th while the equipment is moved to the new data center.|
|October 21, 2014||Blackboard Learn Explore (non-prod) will be unavailable Thursday, October 23rd while it is being moved to the new data center.
UPDATE: The date for this move to the new data center has been changed from Thursday, October 23rd to Wednesday, October 29th.
|October 14, 2014||As of 10:47 a.m., password updates to Blackboard are being affected. Engineers are investigating.
UPDATE: As of 2:19 p.m., the backlog has been cleared. Engineers are continuing to monitor the situation.

Blackboard Collaborate Technical Bulletin - September 24, 2014
The Blackboard Collaborate service for customers hosted out of our US datacenter has been experiencing intermittent issues over the last few days related to multiple targeted Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. Users may have experienced some issues connecting to their Collaborate sessions during this time.
It’s important to note that at no time have our systems been compromised nor has the Collaborate application failed. Rather, network congestion caused by the DDoS attempts has prevented our community from enjoying typical levels of performance.
While we have multiple systems in place (both hardware and software) to prevent DDoS attacks from disabling our service, the magnitude of the attacks this week are larger than we have experienced in the past. While the attacks did not bring our service down, they unfortunately were significant enough to disrupt the Collaborate experience for our customers.
We have put additional safeguards in place this week to secure our systems even further against these larger scale attacks. We continue to refine our configurations as necessary so that when these attacks do occur, they are mitigated quickly and without disruption to normal activity.
|September 24, 2014||Blackboard Test Database will be unavailable from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm for refresh from production.|
|September 15, 2014||On the evening of September 13, 2014, the VCCS Blackboard Learning Management System was upgraded to the latest release which was announced to TCC faculty on September 2. The help desk reported a problem with password resets due to the upgrade and students were not able to log into Bb to submit quizzes that were due. Please be understanding to students due to this upgrade hiccup. In the future, you may want to avoid a due date on the day of a scheduled upgrade.
The issue was resolved Sunday, 9/14/2014 at approximately 11p.m.

|September 13, 2014||Blackboard will be unavailable while being upgraded on Saturday, September 13th between 6pm and midnight.|
|August 8, 2014||Blackboard Forget (https://forget.vccs.edu), the TEST instance of Blackboard, will be unavailable on Monday 8/11 for an upgrade to the April 2014 release of Blackboard.|
|August 7, 2014||VCCS Network Engineers will be upgrading the Load Balancer at Featherstone during the maintenance window on Thursday, August 7th starting at 12:00 AM. The upgrade will take around 30 minutes to complete. During that time all Featherstone applications, such as Blackboard, SIS, AIS, Wizard, OAA and MyVCCS will be unavailable.|
|August 4, 2014||Between 7:30pm and 8:00pm this evening, there were intermittent Blackboard issues. They are now resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience. Engineers are researching the underlying causes.|
|July 27, 2014||All services hosted by the VCCS (SIS, AIS, Blackboard, My VCCS, etc., etc.) were intermittently unavailable between 2:28 PM and 3:55 PM on Sunday, July 27 due to the failure of a core networking component at the VCCS data center.|
|July 21, 2014||VCCS Network Support staff will be performing an upgrade of the VCCS load balancer during the maintenance window on 7/24 from 12 – 1 am. All hosted applications such as (SIS, AIS, BlackBoard, MyVCCS, OAA and Wizard) may be inaccessible during the upgrade.|
|June 27, 2014||Due to a recent upgrade, users may have encountered problems when using Atomic Learning in Blackboard. Problems include 1) broken links to the Atomic Learning videos in Blackboard courses and 2) if the links to the Atomic Learning videos are created to display as a list, the video content links will not copy over to a new Blackboard course shell.The VCCS ITS is working with Atomic Learning on resolving these problems.
Before a solution is implemented, please use the following instructions to create a web link to an Atomic Learning video in your Blackboard course: In Blackboard, launch Atomic Learning located under TCC tab.Inside the Atomic Learning site, search for the video you would like to post in your Blackboard course. Open the video and click the button Shareto copy the URL of the video. Next, go to the content area of your Blackboard course and create a web link with the URL.
|June 12, 2014||During the standard outage window on Thursday, June 12, from midnight to 4 a.m. Blackboard will be unavailable for the application of Cumulative Patch 10, and a number of building block upgrades.|
|June 3, 2014||The Blackboard profile feature was deployed on June 3rd, giving students and faculty the ability to personalize their system interface. The most requested feature is the ability to insert a picture or avatar at the global navigation menu. Once it has been added to your profile the image appears in forum posts. To access profile go to the upper right corner of Blackboard and click the down chevron (to the left of the log off button). Next, select the Bb profile icon in the upper left of the dropdown menu (immediately to the left of the “Courses” header). Once the profile editor is open you have a number of choices, but to set privacy options and/or add an image simply select “Settings & Privacy.” Options are now visible and can be modified or deleted. Once satisfied with the changes click the “Save” button in the upper right corner of the page. For more detailed directions, visit Blackboard.|
|May 22, 2014 (4:45p.m.)||TCC students have been reporting to the helpdesk that students are still having trouble accessing Blackboard. A VCCS issues ticket has been entered. Engineers are still investigating the issues with Blackboard. At 4:30p.m. they performed a password sync function to determine if that would alleviate problems. Troubleshooting will continue.|
|May 22, 2014||Blackboard will be unavailable from 12:30 to 1:00 PM today.
Colleges have reported and engineers have been investigating slow and interrupted backend operations (course copies, SIS integration, password changes) in Blackboard. Engineers have determined that all Blackboard services will need to be restarted in a coordinated fashion.
|February 28, 2014||Due to recent issues with tests in Blackboard that require the Respondus Lockdown Browser, ITS is looking at enforcing a minimum version for end users to the most recent release (Feb, 2014). Users on older versions will see a notice requiring them to upgrade.|
|February 20, 2014||The issue with Internet Explorer 11 and Blackboard has been fixed. Users should be able to use it without problems. The underlying issue was related to how IE deals with compatibility mode settings.|
|February 19, 2014||At around 9:00 a.m., it was found out that student enrollment had been disabled in all the TCC Blackboard course shells. The Center for eLearning worked with the VCCS IT department on resolving this issue. Student enrollment was enabled in the TCC Blackboard courses at 9:55 a.m.|
|February 13, 2014||Internet Explorer 11 was released by Microsoft via their automatic updates on Tuesday night. IE 11 will now crash for instructors when they try to access a course with edit mode on. VCCS has a ticket open with Blackboard, but instructors may have to use alternate browsers until this can be addressed.|
|February 12, 2014||During the standard outage window from midnight on 2/13, Blackboard will be patched primarily to resolve an issue with client-side java permissions. Following the application of the patch, end users may still need to clear their java cache.|
|January 15, 2014||From the morning of January 14 to the early afternoon of January 15, MyTCC password update was migrating to Blackboard slowly. This caused some students to have to login again when clicking the Blackboard link within MyTCC. Blackboard was available during that time.|
