"Remember, Serve, Act."

To me Martin Luther King is a symbol of hope. Not just for black or white people, but for all people. He had a belief, and he actually died for it. He wasn’t just about treating black people well; he wanted everyone to be treated equally.

He had a dream. Because he had a dream, I have a dream, and it can come true. Martin Luther King is a real motivator for me. I want to be a special education teacher. That’s my dream

The day represents a lot. It means a lot because of who it’s in honor of and because of all he did and stood for. Because he did what he did is why I can do what I do right now.

Martin Luther King Day means freedom. To me, it's about breaking cycles.

It’s all about giving back. As adult students with busy lives, it’s vital that we connect with groups that are making a real difference. For me that group is TCC’s Computers for Student Success program. I marvel at how grateful students are when they receive a desktop or laptop. They often come back and volunteer themselves, and sometimes they bring sweet treats just to say thanks.

I was 5 years old when I heard his 'I Have a Dream' speech. I remember my parents telling me that he provided a steppingstone for my future, and that was education. They told me he paved the way for my education.
