TCC joins state agencies across the Commonwealth of Virginia for a tornado drill on Tuesday, March 12 at 9:45 a.m.
Students, faculty and staff will take cover in enclosed hallways and safe spaces. TCC Alerts, the college emergency alert system, will be activated, and hall captains will lead the effort to clear classrooms and workspaces.
“Tornadoes are common in Virginia. It is critically important for state employees and their families to know what to do and where to go in case of a tornado warning,” said Marla Decker, Secretary of Public Safety. “During the Statewide Tornado Drill schools, government agencies, businesses and families can practice their tornado emergency plans.
During the past two years, 62 tornadoes hit Virginia, killing 10 people and injuring more than 100. Some 210 homes were destroyed, and more than 1,050 were damaged. Nearly every part of the state was affected.
