Founding dean of TCC’s division of health sciences, Linda M. Rice served as director of respiratory care at Maryview Hospital prior to joining the college in 1977. At TCC, she has served as program director for respiratory therapy, chair of the academic division for health science technologies and special assistant to the president for military affairs and community outreach, before becoming vice president for workforce development where she honed her skills in partnership building. Rice holds a B.A. from Randolph Macon Woman’s College and an M.S. in adult education and a Ph.D. in urban services from Old Dominion University. She completed professional training in respiratory therapy at the University of Chicago.

After serving as vice president for academic and student affairs, Mike Summers assumed the role of provost of TCC’s Virginia Beach Campus, the largest in TCC’s four-campus system, enrolling more than 20,000 students annually. He brings to the post more than two decades of teaching, administrative and executive leadership experience from three community colleges. He served as vice president for education at Greenville Technical College (GTC) – a large, complex, multi-campus institution in a dynamic and growing region of South Carolina – prior to joining TCC. His executive leadership in academic and student affairs at GTC included extensive experience in the accreditation process, including the new model recently adopted by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Prior positions include division chair for technology and information systems, and director of correctional center programs, both at Danville Area Community College, and associate professor at Black Hawk College. Summers holds a B.S. from the University of Illinois, a M.Ed. from Western Illinois University and an Ed.D. from the University of Illinois.

Providing leadership aboard ship, abroad and stateside, Susan Nickens has extensive experience in academic programming and operational management. Her experience includes time aboard The Scholar Ship providing curriculum development, programming and evaluation; and hiring and supervising academic staff. Nickens also bolstered academic affairs and English and communication programs at University of Maryland’s European headquarters. Nickens holds a bachelor’s in English from North Carolina Wesleyan College and a master’s and Ph.D. in English from University of Maryland.
