Norfolk students give back by volunteering

In the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr., students from TCC’s Norfolk Campus volunteered on Monday morning at Calvary Revival Church. The service day was sponsored by VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads.

TCC students partnered with area youth assembling kits to benefit the military and children in the Head Start  program. The military kits included snacks, magnets and thank you notes from the children. The HeadStart packages included starter flowerpot kits meant to demonstrate the cycle of a bean. They will be used for an environmental lesson in local elementary schools.

The service day reinforces King’s message of civic engagement and illustrates how a single day of volunteering can grow into an ongoing habit of helping communities.

“I love being able to give back,” says student Tanisha Monroe, an officer in Phi Theta Kappa. “I like helping the less fortunate. That brings a joy to my spirit.”
