TIDEWATER COMMUNITY COLLEGE SHOWCASES HOSPITALITY AND CULINARY ARTS PROGRAMS
IN OPEN HOUSE
NORFOLK, VIRGINIA-(June 9, 2003)-Tidewater Community College is hosting
two Open Houses in its Culinary Arts Labs to invite people to learn more
about the Hospitality Management and Culinary
Arts Department and curriculum. Two open houses will be held on Thursday,
June 19, 3-7 p.m., and Saturday, June 21, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at 350
Granby Street in Norfolk. Guests will be invited to tour the facilities
and meet faculty and chef instructors from the two programs. The events
are free and open to the general public.
The Hospitality Management program at TCC is designed to provide career-building
skills in the rapidly expanding hospitality industry. The curriculum blends
hands-on experience with professional, technical and liberal arts courses.
The Associate
of Applied Science degrees in both Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts
enable students to enter executive training and management positions in
hotels, restaurants, clubs, catering and other food and hospitality services.
Tidewater Community College (TCC) is the second largest of the 23 community
colleges in the Commonwealth of Virginia, enrolling more than 34,000 students
annually. It is the 37th largest in the nation's 1,600 community college
network and among the 50 fastest growing large community colleges. Founded
in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, the college
serves the South Hampton Roads region with campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk,
Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, a regional Visual Arts Center in Olde Towne,
Portsmouth and the TCC Jeanne and George Roper Performing Arts Center in
the theater district in downtown Norfolk. Forty-three percent of the region's
residents attending a college or university in Virginia last fall are enrolled
at TCC.
