TIDEWATER COMMUNITY COLLEGE SHOWCASES HOSPITALITY AND CULINARY ARTS PROGRAMS IN OPEN HOUSE

NORFOLK, VIRGINIA-(June 9, 2003)-Tidewater Community College is hosting two Open Houses in its Culinary Arts Labs to invite people to learn more about the Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts Department and curriculum. Two open houses will be held on Thursday, June 19, 3-7 p.m., and Saturday, June 21, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at 350 Granby Street in Norfolk. Guests will be invited to tour the facilities and meet faculty and chef instructors from the two programs. The events are free and open to the general public.
The Hospitality Management program at TCC is designed to provide career-building skills in the rapidly expanding hospitality industry. The curriculum blends hands-on experience with professional, technical and liberal arts courses. The Associate of Applied Science degrees in both Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts enable students to enter executive training and management positions in hotels, restaurants, clubs, catering and other food and hospitality services.
Tidewater Community College (TCC) is the second largest of the 23 community colleges in the Commonwealth of Virginia, enrolling more than 34,000 students annually. It is the 37th largest in the nation's 1,600 community college network and among the 50 fastest growing large community colleges. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, the college serves the South Hampton Roads region with campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, a regional Visual Arts Center in Olde Towne, Portsmouth and the TCC Jeanne and George Roper Performing Arts Center in the theater district in downtown Norfolk. Forty-three percent of the region's residents attending a college or university in Virginia last fall are enrolled at TCC.
