CLASS SCHEDULE

HOW TO NAVIGATE THE ONLINE SCHEDULE

  1. Pay attention to campus or class location. If only you could beam yourself between campuses. For now, don't schedule a class in Norfolk immediately followed by one in Virginia Beach. Also, allow yourself time to get across campus between classes.

  2. Register for classes held on military installations only if you have base access. The following codes tell you where classes are held.

B = Virginia Beach Campus

Off-campus locations for classes offered by Virginia Beach
1 = Virginia Beach Military (Dam Neck & Oceana)
- = Virginia Beach Military (Little Creek Amphib Base)
4 = Virginia Beach Military Base (Norfolk Naval Station)
7 = Virginia Beach Off-Campus Locations (other than military bases, for example ODU Higher Education Center

C = Chesapeake Campus

Off-campus locations for classes offered by Chesapeake
0 = Chesapeake Military
9 = Chesapeake Off-Campus Locations (other than military bases; for example, the Regional Automotive Center)

N = Norfolk Campus

Off-campus locations for classes offered by Norfolk
K = Norfolk Off-Campus Locations

P = Portsmouth Campus

Off-Campus locations for classes offered by Portsmouth
2 = Portsmouth Off-Campus other than military or Visual Arts Center
3 = Portsmouth Naval Medical Center
5 = Portsmouth Military (Norfolk Naval Shipyard)
6 = Portsmouth Military
8 = Visual Arts Center

  1. Can you attend classes only at night or on weekends? The class codes tell you the time of day courses are being offered, and the mode of instruction.

    • D = Day
    • N = Night (class starts at 4:30 p.m. or later)
    • W = Weekend (Friday night, Saturday or Sunday)
    • L = Laboratory
    • O = Online
    • H = Hybrid (mix of online and on-campus sessions)
    • I = Independent Study

  2. Can you attend class only on certain days? Days of the week are abbreviated like this:

    • M = Monday
    • T = Tuesday
    • W = Wednesday
    • R = Thursday
    • F = Friday
    • S = Saturday
    • U = Sunday

  3. Jot down the class number. If you have this number handy, it makes registering for classes in SIS so much easier.

  4. Does the course require a prerequisite? Doublecheck the course listing in the College Catalog.

  5. If you want to register in a for-credit course, make sure you aren’t looking at non-credit offerings. Subjects for credit courses are abbreviated with three letters (for example, AUT, BIO, ENG, HLT). Subjects for non-credit courses are four letters (for example, AUTO, BUSC, EDUC, HLTH).
