Card Care
-
Keep your card in a secure location (if you opt to place funds on your card, treat your card as cash and protect accordingly)
-
Use a protective case to prevent damage
-
Do not mark or bend the card
-
Do not punch holes in your card
-
Do not scratch the magnetic stripe on the back of the card
-
Avoid storing your card against another card with a magnetic strip
-
Avoid exposing a card to high temperatures such as leaving in direct sunlight or drying in a clothes dryer
- Do not accidently throw in the washing machine - check your pockets
- Don't let a magnet touch the magnetic strip on your card - this may erase the information stored on the stripe
Cleaning Your Card
If your card swipe will not work, attempt to clean the magnetic stripe using the following methods:
-
Rub your card with a plastic bag. If your card is not working, sometimes just rubbing it with a plastic bag can make it work again. The plastic will lubricate the rough spots on the magnetic strip and it will begin swiping properly if it was just a little dirty.
-
Wet the magnetic strip with water and the tiniest bit of soap (unscented, plain soap). Rub gently with a soft cloth (nothing abrasive) to remove or wash off the bits of dirt that may be stuck to your magnetic strip.
-
Rub the strip on a sweater. If your card has become misshapen, the rubbing motion of the sweater will warm up the card just enough to make it more flexible, enabling you to swipe it through the slot.
- As a last resort - use a baby wipe.
