F-1 TRANSFER APPLICANTS

If you are already in the U.S. in F-1 status at another SEVIS approved school and you wish to TRANSFER to TCC as a full-time student, please submit the form and documents listed below ONLY to the International Student Services Office at the Virginia Beach Campus. Application deadlines apply.

 

IMPORTANT !! F-1 Transfer students accepted for admission to Tidewater Community College are required to report in person to the International Student Services Office before registering for classes or being eligible to transfer to another SEVIS approved school. Please be sure of your decision to attend TCC before your electronic SEVIS record is released to TCC.

  • All financial documents must be ORIGINAL and in English and U.S. Dollars. Faxed or scanned copies are not accepted.

  • All submitted documents become the property of Tidewater Community College. PLEASE MAKE PERSONAL COPIES BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR DOCUMENTS.

  • You must submit a COPY of your secondary school diploma or final certificate. Please do not send the original document. An official translation of this document is required.

  • F1 STUDENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO WORK WITHOUT PRIOR AUTHORIZATION FROM THE USCIS.

  1. TIDEWATER COMMUNITY COLLEGE APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION

    This document must be completed and signed by the applicant.

  2. I-20 APPLICATION AND FINANCIAL AFFIDAVIT/BANK VERIFICATION

    Applicant will complete pages1-7; the applicant's sponsor and sponsor's bank will complete page 8 of this form.

    F1 applicants must provide official evidence that sufficient funds are available to cover all educational and living expenses while studying at TCC. The total financial support must meet or exceed TCC’s estimated costs identified below. 


    All submitted financial documents must be ORIGINAL (no faxes, copies, or scans will be accepted), consist of liquid assets that are available in non-retirement or non-restricted funds, be no more than 6 months old at the time of the student’s application, and must be in English and U.S. Dollars. If more than one sponsor will contribute to your study and living expense at TCC, each sponsor must indicate the specific dollar amount of support that will be available to you and complete an Affidavit of Support/Bank Verification form.


 

Please ensure the following:

  • Sponsor completes and signs the Affidavit of Support on page 8 of this form.

  • Sponsor indicates on the form the specific dollar amount of support that he or she will provide for you for each year of study at TCC.

  • The BANK VERIFICATION section is signed and sealed by your sponsor's bank officer.

    If your sponsor's bank will not complete this section, you may submit a separate, official bank letter in English and U.S. dollars. Bank letters must contain the sponsor's name, account number, and the same information as is requested in the Bank Verification section on page 5 of the I-20 Application. Generic bank letters are not accepted.

Program of Study (page 4 of the I-20 Application form)

TCC is authorized by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program to admit F-1 students and issue the form I-20 ONLY for the academic programs listed on page 4 of the I-20 Application and Financial Statement form. Select (1) academic program from the list on page 4 of this form.


 

      3.    DEMONSTRATION OF ENGLISH PROFICIENCY

If English is not your first/native language, you must demonstrate English proficiency that meets the admission requirements of all applicants to the college pursuant to an I-20 and F1 status. English proficiency may be demonstrated in the following ways:

  • An international TOEFL report with a minimum score of 61 iBT (500 paper-based TOEFL) that is sent to TCC directly from TOEFL/ETS. TCC’s TOEFL School Code is 5787.

  • An academic IELTS score of 6.0 or higher

  • Successful completion of TCC’s ESL placement test with a faculty placement of ESL Advanced Level or higher.

  • Transcripts from an accredited U.S. college or university for Freshman Composition with a grade of “C” or better.

  • Evidence of possession of a U.S. college/university degree (Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate, etc.)

    Your international admission to TCC cannot be completed until you have demonstrated the English proficiency required of F1 applicants. (*English proficiency requirements are subject to change without notice) Regardless of your English proficiency, you will take a placement test upon arrival to the college unless you have completed Freshman Composition at, or possess a degree from, an accredited U.S. college or university.

 

     4.    HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR SECONDARY STUDIES FINAL 

DIPLOMA / CERTIFICATE

F-1 applicants must be 18 years of age and provide a COPY of the document that indicates completion of secondary studies, i.e., high school diploma or secondary studies final certificate. Academic credentials submitted to TCC must be accompanied by an English translation. F-1 applicants who have NOT completed secondary studies will not be accepted.

 

     6.     IMMIGRATION DOCUMENTS

F-1 Transfer students must submit COPIES of their current immigration documents, including:

  • I-20 from their current school

  • The identification page of their passport

  • Current paper or web-based Form I-94 (obtain a copy of your web-based I-94 here: https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html)

  • F-1 visa.

 

     7.   SEVIS F-1 TRANSFER-IN FORM

This completed form is required along with the other admission documents pursuant to an I-20. Please complete the top portion of this form and have your current SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO) complete and sign the bottom half. Your current DSO must mail or fax the completed form directly to the International Student Services Office at TCC. Student faxed or hand-carried copies will not be accepted.



     8.    TRANSCRIPTS FROM CURRENT SCHOOL

F-1 Transfer students must submit unofficial copies of transcripts from their current school to the International Student Services Office as part of the admission process. Unofficial transcripts must contain the student's name and the name of the school.

**Transfer students who wish to transfer credits from their previous institution must request that an OFFICIAL transcript be sent directly to TCC's Central Records Office.

 

     9.   EVIDENCE OF CONTINUOUS HEALTH INSURANCE


All F-1 students and their dependents are required to provide proof of continuous health insurance coverage for each semester, including summer, by the last day of the first week of classes. Proof of international student health insurance that meets the minimum standards set by the ISS Office is mandatory. Students who fail to provide evidence of continuous health insurance for the entire semester, and summer, will be blocked from college transactions.

* The International Student Services Office no longer accepts health coverage from the International Student Organization (ISO). Brochures for companies that meet the ISS requirements are available at the International Student Services Office.

   10  EVALUATION OF FOREIGN COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPTS

TCC does not evaluate foreign transcripts for transfer credit.

Please do not send your academic transcript evaluations to the ISS Office. If you have coursework from an overseas college or university for which you would like to try to receive transfer credit, click the link below for information on private academic credentialing agencies that are approved by TCC:

This school is authorized under Federal Law to enroll non-immigrant alien students.

F-1 visa students at Tidewater Community College may only enroll in classes required for the course of study listed on the form I-20 that are located at TCC’s four comprehensive campuses (Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach) and the Visual Arts Center. (Please note: students may continue to enroll in one 3 credit online course per semester to count towards full-time enrollment.)  Enrollment in classes at any off-campus location is not permitted, and is considered to be a violation of status. There is no exception to this policy.
