The Visual Arts Center of Tidewater Community College (VAC) presented Constructs VIII, January 22 through March 10, 2011. The Opening Reception was held on Friday, January 21 at 7 p.m.; a Gallery Talk by Chris Gregson, Constructs Founder, preceded the opening at 6 p.m.
Constructs VIII was the eighth in a series of exhibitions that featured work by 11 prominent abstract painters from Virginia and the Washington D.C. area. Artists included: Sally Bowring, Steven Cushner, Don Crow, Reni Gower, Chris Gregson, Steven Griffin, Ron Johnson, Paul Ryan, Javier Tapia and Dan Treado. Since the first exhibit in 2005, the show has traveled throughout the state to museums, university galleries and alternative spaces. Constructs exhibitions and complementary programming provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, and for presenting abstract art to a broader audience.
Work in Constructs was large in scale and included traditional easel painting, collage and installation. Materials included oil, acrylic, watercolor and a complete spectrum of mixed media.
