General Admissions Policy

Individuals are eligible for admission to Tidewater Community College if they are high school graduates or the equivalent, or if they are eighteen years of age or older and able to benefit academically from study at the college, as demonstrated by assessment in reading, writing, and mathematics.            

 

Applicants eighteen years of age or older who have not earned a high school diploma or GED, or who received a “Special Diploma” or “Certificate of Completion” from a Virginia public high school, may be admitted if they meet minimum assessment scores in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Exceptions to this policy may be made by the college president only for documented reasons.

Students without HS diploma/GED should be referred to Adult Education Programs in their city of residence to earn their GED to become eligible for Title IV Funds.
