NOTICE:

APPLICATION WINDOW FOR FOR FALL 2015/SPRING 2016

OPENS FEBRUARY 1, 2015

The scholarship application process for 2015/2016: February 1, 2015 - June 1, 2015 and September 15, 2015 -  November 1, 2015. 

 

 

To Apply:

1. Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online or pickup an application from the campus Financial Aid Office. Use the TCC College Code: 003712.

2. Complete your application and all additional materials required in the criteria for your scholarship.

 

3. Submit all materials with your scholarship application

 

Please Note: All scholarships provided through the Educational Foundation can not be refunded. All

Foundation scholarships will pay directly for tuition, books and fees. Please contact your financial aid office

for futher concerns.

 

Beazley Foundation Nursing Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by the Beazley Foundation in 2006 to support students enrolled in TCC's Nursing program. The Beazley Foundation was founded by Fred Beazley, a Portsmouth businessman who wanted to contribute to the needs of his community, specifically the youth.  The scholarship funds should be applied to tuition, fees, and books.

Criteria:

Student must be pursuing a Nursing degree at Tidewater Community College

• Student can be a full-time or part-time student

• Student must demonstrate financial need

• Students from Portsmouth will be given preference unless other applicants demonstrate a greater financial need and/or academic performance/potential

The Clark-Janis Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by Mary Clark Janis, in memory of her parents and grandparents in support of the Nursing Program at Tidewater Community College. The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for academically talented students studying Nursing.

Criteria:
Student must be enrolled in the Nursing Program at Tidewater Community College.

• Student must have not yet met the cost of enrollment.

• Student must demonstrate academic talent.

• Student must plan to practice Nursing in the Tidewater, Virginia region.

Doug Barner Fine Arts Scholarship

Description:
This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Doug Barner, an artist who was active in his Virginia Beach community and died suddenly in October 2007. The scholarship funds should be applied to tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with taking classes at the Visual Arts Center.

Criteria:
• Pursuing a painting, drawing, or photography degree at the Visual Arts Center
• Full-time or part-time student
• Not yet met the cost of attendance for the year
• If recipient is a continuing student, student must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher
• If recipient is a new student, student must have a high school GPA of 2.8 or higher

Ethelyn Hardesty Morgan Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established in 1982 in memory of Mrs. Ethelyn Morgan to support exceptional students seeking an A.A. degree in Liberal Arts or an A.S. degree in Social Sciences within the Languages, Mathematics, and Sciences Division at TCC's Portsmouth Campus. The funds should be applied to tuition and fees.

Criteria:

• Enrolled in either an A.A degree in Liberal Arts or an A.S. degree in Social Sciences in the Languages and Math/Sciences Division

• Full-time student (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester)

• Recipient must be a recent graduate of a local high school

• Recipient must qualify for in-state tuition and claim Portsmouth as their campus of record

• Continuing student (no more than 30 credit hours completed)

• GPA of 3.0 or higher at TCC

• Maintain GPA of 3.0 while receiving scholarship

• Scholarship to be awarded in fall (by October 1) of student’s second year for use in spring semester

Fred W. Beazley Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by the Frederick Foundation, now a part of the Beazley Foundation, to support students at TCC's Portsmouth Campus. The funds should be applied to tuition and fees.

Criteria:

• Resident of Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk, Suffolk, or Virginia Beach
• Home campus must be Portsmouth Campus
• Full-time or part-time student
• If new student, “an ability to benefit” from a program of instruction
• If continuing student, a GPA of 3.5 or higher
• Qualify for in-state tuition
• Greatest financial need if all applicants meet above criteria

Kathleen Marie Eddy Art Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by Carolyn Eddy Sale in memory of her sister, Kathleen Marie Eddy, to support aspiring student artists at the Tidewater Community College Visual Arts Center. The scholarship money may be used for tuition, fees, books and other expenses associated with taking classes at the Visual Arts Center.

Criteria:

• Student must be pursuing an arts degree at the Tidewater Community College

Visual  Arts Center.

• Student must be a full time student.

• Student must be in their second year (third or fourth semester) at Tidewater Community College.

Student must have an overall GPA of 3.0.

Preference will be given to a student who has a part-time job.

Student must have not yet met the cost of attendance for the year.

Marjorie J. Shaw Memorial Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by Harry R. Shaw and Phyllis J. Parron for the students of Tidewater Community College who are studying nursing. One scholarship will be awarded annually. May be awarded in Fall or Spring.

Criteria:

• Student must be enrolled in the nursing program at TCC.

• Student must be a full-time student.

• Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.

• Student must have not yet met the cost of attendance for the year.

Portsmouth Campus General Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established through donations to the Tidewater Community College Educational Foundation. Scholarship funds should be applied to tuition, fees, and books.

Criteria:

• Must be currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program at TCC

• Continuing student (minimum of 6 completed credits)
• Cumulative GPA 2.5 or higher
• Funds to be equally awarded in two semesters

• Scholarship to be awarded fall, spring or summer semesters

Letter of recommendation is required with application from one of the following:  

  TCC faculty member, faculty from another institution, or employer

Portsmouth Community Foundation Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by the Portsmouth Community Foundation in 1988 to support academically outstanding students at TCC's Portsmouth Campus. The funds should be applied to tuition and fees.

Criteria:

• GPA of 3.5 or higher
• Pursuing one of the college’s degree programs
• Full-time or part-time student
• Continuing student (24 credit hours completed)

Portsmouth Lions Disabilities Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by the Portsmouth Host Lions Club in 2003 to support a student with disabilities at TCC's Portsmouth Campus. The funds can be applied to tuition, books, personal assistive technology, or transportation costs, excluding personal vehicles.

Criteria:

• Must be documented as a Portsmouth Campus student of TCC

• Must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours and must have attended TCC for at least one
  prior semester

• Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5

• Must have documentation on file with Disability Services meeting TCC guidelines for disability.

• Must be documented as legally blind or learning disabled with a significant weakness in reading
  and word recognition relative to ability.

• Must be willing to share the receipt of the scholarship through print and electronic TCC
  publications

• Must submit an end-of-year progress report outlining his/her individual accomplishments and
  detailing how the scholarship helped him/her achieve those accomplishments.

Robert T. Williams Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established in 2009 by the Portsmouth Partnership Foundation to support TCC Portsmouth Campus students.  The scholarship was named in honor of Robert Williams, a long time board member of the Portsmouth Partnership, upon his retirement from the board in recognition of his many years of service to the city and community of Portsmouth.  The funds may be used for tuition and books.

Criteria:

• Student’s home campus must be TCC’s Portsmouth Campus.

• Student must be a graduate of Portsmouth Public Schools.

• Student must be enrolled in a Career and Technical program.

• Student must have a high school or TCC GPA of 2.8 or higher.

• Student can be a full-time or part-time student.

• Student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher to continue to qualify for the funds.

 Letters of recommendation from the career and technical teacher at the campus or from the high school where the career and technical classes were taken. The letter must address the student’s successful participation and academic success in the career and technical program

Ruth Knowles Scarlott Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

• Student must be pursuing an Associate of Applied Arts degree at

   TCC's Portsmouth campus.

 • Student can be a full-time or part-time student.

 • If a continuing student at TCC, student must have an overall GPA of 2.5.

 • If a new student at TCC, student must have a high school GPA of 2.8.

Shirley Taylor Nursing Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship is named in memory of a former TCC Nursing faculty member and is intended to honor the nursing student who demonstrates the greatest improvement in clinical performance during his/her two years in the TCC Nursing program.  The scholarship is awarded annually during the Pinning Ceremony.

Criteria:

• Completed TCC Nursing Program
• Demonstrated the greatest improvement in clinical performance during two years in TCC Nursing
  Program

Suffolk Kiwanis Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by the Suffolk Kiwanis Club to support a TCC student who is a Suffolk resident. The funds should be applied to tuition and fees.

Criteria:

• Resident of Suffolk
• Need-based with a minimum GPA of 3.0 if a continuing student
• Full or part-time student
• A declared program of study (degree, diploma, or certificate)
• New or continuing student
