FINANCIAL AID: application status
In order to receive Financial Aid at TCC, you must have completed the Colleges admission procedures, submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the U.S. Department of Education and be meeting the financial aid eligibility requirements.
If you file your FAFSA online and provide an email address on your application, you will receive the results of your FAFSA from the U.S. Department of Education at that email address in approximately five business days. This is called a Student Aid Report (SAR) and is a summary of the information that you reported on the FAFSA.
Upon receipt of your SAR, please verify that all information is correct and review to determine if there are any issues related to your eligibility that you must resolve. If you need to make corrections, please do so at the web site www.fafsa.ed.gov.
If you complete a paper application and mail it to the federal processor, you will receive the results of your FAFSA from the U.S. Department of Education at your mailing address in approximately four weeks.
Check on Your FAFSA
To check on the status of your FAFSA, visit the web site at www.fafsa.ed.gov or contact the U.S. Department of Education at 1-800-833-3243.
Upon reviewing your SAR, you may find that you have been selected for a process called verification. During this process, the U.S. Department of Education requires that the College review your FAFSA information and compare it to certain personal and financial information that you will be asked to provide.
If you are selected for verification, you will receive an official notification from TCC outlining the documents that you must submit in order to complete this process. Please comply with this request and submit the requested documents immediately to the Financial Aid Office. Your information will be reviewed to ensure accuracy and compared to the information reported on your FAFSA. If corrections are necessary, they will be made by the College. If no corrections are needed, your financial aid eligibility will be determined and you will be notified officially of your awards.
Financial Aid Award Notices
Financial Aid Award Notices for the 2008-2009 academic year are mailed to students as aid is awarded. Please review this notice carefully and follow directions if further action is needed to apply for aid, such as student loans.
View Your Awards in SIS
Awards are posted on the Student Information System (SIS) at the following address: https://tcc.my.vccs.edu/jsp/home.jsp. Log-in using your EmplID and password. If you have any difficulty logging on to the SIS, please contact the TCC Information Center at email@example.com or by calling 822-1122 or by reviewing the Student Help Page.
DISBURSEMENT OF AWARDS
Paying Tuition and Fees
Once you receive your Financial Aid Award Notice, please review it to determine if the aid awarded will be sufficient to pay your tuition and fees. Please note that financial aid awards are based on projected full-time enrollment and will be adjusted if you enroll less than full-time. Please see a financial aid advisor for assistance with determining your award(s) for less than full-time attendance.
If your aid is sufficient to cover your tuition and fees, you need to take no further action. Your aid will be applied to these charges by the College. Please note that some types of aid require additional action to apply, such as students loans. Be sure to read all documents included with your Financial Aid Award Notice carefully.
If your aid is not sufficient to cover your tuition and fees, please be prepared to pay the remaining balance by the published tuition payment deadline. Failure to pay tuition and fees by this date will result in you being dropped from the class(es) that are not covered.
Using Remaining Aid Balances at the Bookstore
If your tuition and fees are paid in full and you have a remaining financial aid balance, you may use this balance at the College bookstore. The dates that you may use remaining financial aid each semester are published at the bookstore. Students who apply late for financial aid may experience a 24 hour delay from the time that aid is awarded to when it is accessible at the bookstore. Take your picture ID (driver’s license or student ID) with you to the bookstore to facilitate you using financial aid for your purchases.
Receiving Remaining Aid Balances
Students with remaining aid balances after tuition and fees are paid in full and after bookstore purchases have been made will receive the remaining balance in the form of a check disbursed each semester. Prior to disbursing these remaining balances, the College must ensure that all charges are paid, adjust aid for students who are less than full-time, and disburse the aid to pay charges.
Each semester, disbursement dates will be published on the Financial Aid Hotline at 1-757-822-1355. Students may call the Hotline to learn the first scheduled disbursement dates for student loans and scholarships as well as federal and state grants. After the initial disbursement dates, the College will process new disbursements approximately every two weeks throughout the semester as awards are made. Please see a financial aid advisor if you have questions regarding your disbursement.
Please note that remaining balances are mailed to the most current MAILING address posted in SIS. Please ensure that your mailing address is current and valid in SIS. If the remaining balance check is returned to the College as undeliverable, you will receive correspondence from the College informing you that you must update your mailing address in SIS in order for the returned check to be mailed to your new address.
Lost Check Procedures
If thirty days have passed from the date that your remaining balance was mailed to you and you have not received the check, you may visit your campus Financial Aid Office and request a Lost Check Affidavit. This will allow the College to begin the process of issuing you a new check. You may not complete this request until after thirty days have passed from the date of your check being mailed.
