- Important Notes
- It is imperative that the college has a local mailing
address and phone number so that we can mail you the class
schedule, your priority registration card and so they
can reach you in case of a canceled class or problem with
your registration.
- The choice of a program of interest will determine your
curriculum placement and should be discussed with a counselor
to insure you are selecting a major consistent with your
career objectives.
- The last page or section of the application is used
to determine residency and domicile classification. Generally, active duty personnel who don't
pay Virginia income taxes will be classified and consequently
billed as out-of-state residents. However, when using
tuition assistance you will be eligible for the lower
contract rate. (domicile
and Tuition
Assistance will be addressed in greater detail in
other sections of this website).
- The college does not require SAT or ACT scores, nor is a high school diploma required. In lieu
of these standardized tests, TCC administers a placement
test in English, reading and math to determine if any
developmental, non credit courses will be necessary before
enrolling in a degree program. The English/Reading placement
test is mandatory before registering unless the student
has transfer credit in English or reading intensive courses
such as history and psychology and provides documentation
of this course work to the TCC advisor. The English placement
test is waived for people having credit for college composition
from another college or through CLEP. Likewise the math
test is not required if credit in math has been earned
at another accredited college, from evaluation of the Smart Transcript (summary of Military Training
and Experiences) or CLEP. Testing is done daily on the
campuses and a $4.00 testing fee is charged to take the
Compass computerized placement test.
- An alternate placement test may be offered on base free of charge. [more]
This
test is given free of charge and takes approximately three
hours to do both the English and the Math sections. Your
application must be submitted prior to the test date. TCC will not honor placement tests taken at another college
nor developmental, non credit courses completed at another
school. Your test scores are valid for one year and
you must have permission from a TCC counselor to retake
the test. Some review and preparation is strongly
suggested before taking the tests to achieve a score reflective
of your true abilities. A booklet of sample questions
and a practice test is available from the on campus Enrollment
Offices or the on base offices of TCC. Test results are
available within 4 business days and you will need to discuss
these results with a TCC counselor or base representative.
The Privacy Act prohibits release of this information
over the phone. Your test results will be important in
making the correct selections for course enrollment.
