DoD Restoring Tuition Assistance for All Services
Tuition assistance programs are to be restored quickly with renewed funding from Congress, Defense Department officials said. The current programs provide about $250 per credit hour with a ceiling of $4,500 annually for servicemembers using thier off duty time to pursue vocational courses or classes toward an associate, bachelor, masters or doctoral degree.

Retirees and Vets Allowed to Salute Flag
The National Defense Authorization Act of 2008 allows un-uniformed service members, military retirees, and veterans to render a hand salute during the hositing, lowering, or passing of the U.S. flag. Later the Defense Authorization Act of 2009 further authorized hand-salutes during the national anthem by veterans and out-of-uniform military personnel.
