Indiana Artists: Charles Gick and Sigrid Zahner ran from January 21 through March 8, 2012. The Artistís Reception was held on Friday, January 20 at 7 p.m.

Both artists in this program were from West Lafayette, Indiana and are professors in the art department at Purdue University. Charles Gick creates installations that explore memory, the body, emotions and the sensory experiences that are shared with the natural environment. His work at the VAC included: large suspended garments created from soiled mops; a compelling video installation, Flowers from the Mouth, that has resulted in a variety of interpretations; and the wall installation, Dirt, Water, Spit and Spoons, a metaphor of transforming the futile into the fertile.

Sigrid Zahner creates prints and earthenware figures that depict her interest in a variety of universal ideas. Her reaction to war, religion, family and politics is profoundly and interestingly reflected in her work, particularly in her clay pieces. These small fragile creations combine highly detailed faces and body parts with other segmented components resulting in abstract humanistic forms.
