Program Evaluation Techniques FILLED

Effective program evaluation is essential to your program design and delivery as well as provides a mechanism to measure the impact of your programs and services and how well they meet your clients’ needs. A key selection criterion for most funding bodies is that an adequate evaluation is incorporated into any program applying for funding. Program evaluation provides a vehicle for quality assurance, the ongoing improvement and refinement of program content, and a measure of overall program success.
In this two-day course learn ways to determine effective organizational performance and results. Topics include: Basic concepts for determining organizational performance; strategies for incorporating results; program planning; program implementation; and justifying resource requirements.

Social Marketing: Improving the Community by Influencing Behavior FILLED

Social marketing is the planning and implementation of programs designed to bring about social change using concepts from commercial marketing. While commercial marketing revolves around selling goods and services, the social marketer sells a desired behavior such as carpooling to work, getting a flu shot, wearing seatbelts and saving the bay.
In this two-day course, learn the key concepts of social marketing to design your campaign. Topics include selecting target markets; setting objectives and goals; identifying barriers, motivators and the competition; crafting a desired positioning; developing a strategic marketing mix; evaluation, budgeting and completing the plan.

Grant Proposal Development FILLED
Winning a grant takes more than a well-written proposal. The proposal is a part of a process of planning, research, outreach, and cultivation. This course is designed to teach participants how to write a winning grant proposal. Participants will learn firsthand about grant writing from an experienced grant writer. In this two-day course, participants will learn the components of a well-crafted proposal, effective research methods, and the cultivation of funders.

Instructor: Amy Nisenson is the executive director of The Mary Morton Parsons Foundation in Richmond. In addition to her role as Executive Director, Amy works with small and emerging nonprofits in a consultant role, assisting with grant research, grant writing, board development, and other functions associated with sustaining a nonprofit. Amy also teaches classes at the University of Richmond in the Institute on Philanthropy.

Standards and Accountability for Nonprofit Excellence Part I
Nonprofits must comply with applicable local, state and federal laws. This course will provide tools and resources to evaluate and improve business practices to bring them in line with commonly accepted accountability standards. Standardization of practices creates an environment of transparency, accountability and integrity; qualities required to hold the public trust. Guidelines and suggestions will be provided for nonprofits looking to improve their processes. Standards and Accountability will be offered as a two part series. These classes are independent and part I is not a prerequisite for part II, although participation in both parts is encouraged. Part I will cover policies and procedures, financial management, fundraising, information technology and human resources. This course is suitable for staff, executive directors and board members.

Planning and Leading Board Retreats
