Motion: The College Faculty Senate requests that all proposed restructuring
and/or changes to a division’s scope and purpose within the campuses at
Tidewater Community College be routed through the affected campus Faculty
Senate for appropriate discussion and comment. Results from these discussions
and comment periods should be included with any proposal routed to the
Executive Staff or President for approval.
Supporting statements:
1. To support the idea of shared governance, faculty and staff are the ones
most affected by campus changes and would have unique knowledge of their effect on students, mission of the college, and its reputation with its associated communities.
2. Faculty and staff have the knowledge of history of why and how the
current structure was put in place and will have to live with decisions for
very long periods as compared with the average length of time deans and
provosts are in place. We feel it is appropriate that their input be given
official recognition in these matters.

MOTION: The Faculty Senate form an ad hoc committee to draft policy and procedures to ensure that violations of the policy in the Student Handbook on cheating are documented and properly handled. The charge of the ad hoc committee on Student Cheating is to review any existing applicable policies, consult with student service representatives as deemed appropriate, and develop a draft policy and procedures to submit to the College Faculty Senate that includes at a minimum:
• Documented procedures for faculty and administrators to handle cheating incidents, including repeat offenders
• Proposal for a centralized repository of information on students who have cheated
• A means for administrative personnel to recognize and notify faculty of repeat offenders
Draft Policy and Procedures must be created in accordance with TCC's Policy on Development and Maintenance of Policies and Procedures and should be submitted to the College Faculty Senate by the April meeting. |
