CMVE, Alumni Association to host Veterans Day receptions on each campus

Tidewater Community College’s Center for Military and Veterans Education (CMVE), in conjunction with the TCC Alumni Association and campus student centers, will host Veterans Day appreciation receptions on each of the college’s campuses beginning Nov. 3.

All military-related students and alumni are welcome to attend. The schedule:

  • The reception on the Norfolk Campus is on Nov. 3 from noon until 2 p.m. in the Norfolk Campus Student Center.
  • The reception on the Portsmouth Campus is Nov. 5 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the Forum in Building A.
  • The reception on the Chesapeake Campus is Nov. 6 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chesapeake Student Center.
  • The reception on the Virginia Beach Campus is Nov. 10 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Virginia Beach Student Center.

“On Veterans Day, a feeling of pride should surge in your heart,” said Bruce Brunson, executive director of the CMVE. “With more than 14,000 military-related students at TCC, we all can make a difference in recognizing the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families.”

Each reception includes a welcome by the campus provost and Brunson and recognition of the veterans in attendance. A POW/MIA remembrance ceremony will follow, and Wayne Robinson, president and chief executive officer of Student Veterans of America, will offer a message of support about successful transition from military to civilian life. The event will conclude with a cake-cutting ceremony to honor each veteran’s distinguished contribution to our nation’s quest for freedom.

TCC, which earned “veteran friendly” honors from the American Council on Education earlier this year, served 14,343 military-related students during the 2013-14 academic year, including veterans, active duty and family members.
