Learn phlebotomy in the state’s best program

Tidewater Community College’s Career Studies Certificate in Phlebotomy prepares you to become an integral member of the health care team as you learn to: collect, transport, handle, and process blood specimens for analysis; identify and select equipment; and recognize and handle issues such as infection control and contamination. Graduates of TCC’s program, which includes hands-on clinical instruction, are prepared for the National Healthcareer Association Certification Examination to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT). Many graduates find jobs as soon as they complete the program.

Career Studies Certificate - Phlebotomy

Prepare for entry-level employment in hospitals, medical offices, and clinics with training in blood draw and preparation/processing of blood for testing. You will also prepare to take the National Certification Examination in Phlebotomy.

Students will prepare to obtain the National Healthcareer Association Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT).

Admission to the phlebotomy program requires a separate application in addition to general admission to the college.

To qualify for this competitive program, you will need to complete and submit your application and immunization record on April 1 (until class fills) for fall admission and November 1 (until class fills) for spring admission.

It is also highly recommended that you attend an information session, which is held on the third Thursday of each month (except December) at 4 p.m. in the Regional Health Professions Center on the Virginia Beach Campus.

Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the phlebotomy program.
