TCC participates in public awareness event on relationship violence
Sponsored by the Tidewater Community College Women’s Center, the Red Flag Campaign is an annual public awareness event that addresses intimate partner violence and promotes the prevention of dating violence on college campuses. Each TCC campus is participating by setting up red flags to draw attention to the problem. The idea behind the campaign is to create a bystander intervention strategy, encouraging friends and others on campus to speak up when they see warning signs or “red flags” for dating violence.
The Norfolk Campus will feature a one-hour talk beginning at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 23 on the fifth floor of the Student Center titled “All Hands in to End Domestic Violence.” The featured speakers are Sergeant Fred Jackson of the Norfolk Police Department and a victim’s advocate from the YMCA of South Hampton Roads. Lunch will be provided. Save your seat by emailing womenscenter@tcc.edu.
The Portsmouth Campus will also sponsor a talk at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 in C101. Lisa A. Dlubala, volunteer and community relations coordinator of HER Shelter, will present “Domestic Violence Basics.”
