Information sessions provide all the answers for incoming students
Student orientations on each of the four campuses answer those questions and the others that arise as Tidewater Community College draws closer to the start of fall classes on Aug. 23. The three-hour sessions give an overview of the college, allow students to meet with an academic advisor, offer guided campus tours and walk students through how to enroll in classes. Financial Aid sessions are also available.
“We really want you guys to succeed while you are here,” JoAnn Boyce told a crowded group in The Forum at the Portsmouth Campus.
Boyce suggested students take advantage of the TCC resources that can help them be successful, including the Learning Assistance Center, which offers tutoring, and the Office of Educational Accessibility, which provides accommodations for students with disabilities. Students undecided about a career path can also receive guidance via Placement Testing. All new students also must enroll in a one-credit student development course that assists in the transition to college.
Students were also reminded of upcoming deadlines, including the tuition deadline date (Aug. 9); the last date to drop a course prior to being charged (Sept. 10) and the last day to withdraw from a course (Nov. 1).
Orientations will be offered through Aug. 17 on the Norfolk Campus, Aug. 21 on the Portsmouth Campus and Aug. 22 on the Chesapeake and Virginia Beach campuses.
