TCC joins Registered Apprenticeship-College Consortium

Tidewater Community College has been accepted for membership in the Registered Apprenticeship-College Consortium, a network of college and registered apprenticeship programs that collaborate to provide career opportunities.

Administered by the U.S. Departments of Labor and Education, the consortium is a national network of postsecondary institutions, employers, unions and associations. Its goal is to have apprenticeship graduates complete postsecondary degrees at member colleges.

The consortium makes it easier for apprentices to receive college credit for their rigorous training. Member colleges agree to provide credits toward a Registered Apprenticeship completion certificate.

TCC is the region’s largest provider of workforce development, preparing people for in-demand careers and supporting the local economy.

“As a member of the Regional Apprenticeship-College Consortium, TCC is pleased to join a network of colleges and registered apprenticeship programs that expand college-to-career opportunities for students and employers in Hampton Roads,” said Daniel DeMarte, vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer.

TCC and Lord Fairfax Community College are the only two colleges within the Virginia Community College System to have membership in the consortium.

All Registered Apprenticeship members must have their program evaluated by a third-party organization to determine the college credit value of the apprenticeship completion certificate. Third-party evaluators include the American Council on Education and the National College Credit Recommendation Service.
