TCC 2014 Literary Festival, April 7-10
The free, public festival begins April 7 at 6 p.m. with the world-traveling Timmerman sharing his experiences at the TCC Roper Performing Arts Center in downtown Norfolk. His appearance is presented by TCC’s Office for Intercultural Learning.
Timmerman’s adventures include an overnight stay in Dracula’s castle in Romania, teaching an island village to play baseball in Honduras and farming in four continents. The author of “Where Am I Wearing? A Global Tour to the Countries, Factories, and People that Make our Clothes” and “Where Am I Eating? A Journey Through the Global Food Economy” delivers a message centered on urging students to think and act globally.

- Poet Sean Thomas Dougherty, author of 13 books, including “All I Ask for is Longing: Poems 1994-2014” and “Sasha Sings the Laundry on the Line,” has performed at hundreds of venues and festivals across North America and Europe. Dougherty is known for the energy he puts into his performances, described as “electrifying.” [CANCELLED]
- Poet Rupert Fike, whose most recent collection is titled “Lotus Buffet,” was nominated for a Pushcart prize in fiction and poetry, Fike has a poem inscribed in a downtown Atlanta plaza, and his nonfiction work, “Voices from the Farm,” accounting the life on a spiritual community in the 1970s, is in it second printing.
- Writer Daniel Tyx, who teaches at South Texas College and has an interest in border history, has published work in “The Gettysburg Review” and “Along the River: An Anthology of Voices form the Rio Grande Valley.”
