TCC, Virginia Symphony partner for educational series at the Roper Performing Arts Center

The #VSOatRoper three-concert series at TCC’s Roper Performing Arts Center will feature a unique educational and interactive experience with performances of Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven. Concert goers in specially priced “tweet seats” will be encouraged to live tweet during performances.

The series opens on Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. with Mozart and Tchaikovsky featuring the Virginia Symphony’s Simon Lapointe and Beverly Baker as soloists.

“This partnership between the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Tidewater Community College will allow TCC’s students to have deep interaction with working musicians both in academic and informal settings,” said Paul Lasakow, executive director of the Roper Center. “Our aspiring professional musicians will gain real-world insight into the process of orchestral concert presentation by attending rehearsals, performances, lectures and even master classes by the VSO artistic team. In addition, these wonderful concerts at the TCC Roper Performing Arts Center will further strengthen the college’s connection to its community.”

A Dec. 18 concert at 7:30 p.m. will feature the Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s brass and percussion sections playing a holiday selection. The final show of the series on Feb. 18, 2016 will include Beethoven’s rarely performed Triple Concerto, featuring the violin, cello and piano each as soloists.

Tickets are available at the Roper Center starting at $9 for tweet seats. Regular tickets start at $25 and $50. Students can buy tickets at the door for $10 for non-tweet seats.

Special note:

TCC students are invited to come meet violist Beverly Baker on Sept. 25 at noon in the Roper Center. Baker will share her experiences and advice with TCC students during an informal lecture and social hour. She will also answer questions.
