TCC again recognized for being a Top School for military

Tidewater Community College earned designation as a Top School by Military Advanced Education (MAE) in its 2016 Guide to Colleges and Universities.

TCC serves the largest military-related student population in the state. Active-duty military, reserves, National Guard, veterans and their families make up about one-third of the college’s enrollment.

“We are proud of our mission to serve military, veterans and their families every day,” said Bruce Brunson, executive director of TCC’s Center for Military and Veterans Education, which provides consolidated student services for military-related students and their families.

“We are committed to providing education and career transition services for those who serve our nation with pride and excellence.”

The MAE guide measures best practices in military and veteran education by evaluating military culture, financial aid, flexibility, general support, on-campus support and online support services.

“Our goal is to be a dynamic resource for active service members and those who have moved from the military to their civilian careers, helping them find the school that best fits their plans for the future,” said Kelly Fodel, editor of Military Advanced Education & Transition.

The guide presents results of a questionnaire of the military-supportive policies enacted at more than 600 institutions, including private, public, for-profit, not-for-profit, four-year and two-year colleges. Earlier this fall, the Military Times recognized TCC as a “Best for Vets” institution. U.S. Veterans Magazine’s “Best of the Best” list also designated TCC as a Top Veteran-Friendly School for 2015.
