TCC to launch Accelerated Degree on Norfolk Campus
TCC’s new Accelerated Degree program leads to an Associate of Science in General Studies, which usually takes two years. Upon completion, students may transfer their credits to a four-year college or university to work toward bachelor’s degrees.
This four-session program fulfills freshman and sophomore general education requirements at most Virginia public colleges and universities. If you complete the degree and meet the GPA required for admission at your transfer institution, you will likely be admitted as a junior.
Students who participate in the Accelerated Degree can save thousands by completing two years of college at TCC versus a 4-year institution. In addition, students receive personalized attention with a low faculty-to-student ratio and regular academic advising.
Accelerated Degree students will attend classes in 11- and 12-week sessions for one year to earn the necessary 61 credits. The academic schedule is:
- Session I: July 5 – Sept. 27
- Session II: Oct. 3 – Dec. 21
- Session III: Jan. 3 – April 4, 2017
- Session IV: April 10 – June 27, 2017
Courses are tentatively scheduled to meet Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with at least one online course for each session.
“Our new Accelerated Degree lets students put their education and career into high gear,” said Jeffery Boyd, provost of the Norfolk Campus. “TCC is the first community college in Virginia to launch a program like this.”
TCC is accepting applications for the program, which is open to high school graduates as well as adult learners and military-related students who meet certain academic requirements.
Prospective students must complete admission requirements that are specific to the Accelerated Degree. The first step is to apply for TCC admission, and then contact Cassandra Small, program coordinator, for more information. Small can be reached at 757-822-1723 or csmall@tcc.edu.
