TCC to dedicate new academic building on Chesapeake Campus

The dedication will include remarks by TCC President Edna V. Baehre-Kolovani, Provost Lisa B. Rhine and Chesapeake Mayor Alan Krasnoff.

The 60,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art building, which opened on Aug. 22, includes classroom space for the interior design program and space for general education courses in college composition, speech/communications, humanities, fine arts, social and behavioral sciences and world languages.

“The campus experience for today’s students is very different from when I attended college,” said Rhine.“The ways our students use technology and how it affects teaching and learning were considered in the design of this academic building. Multipurpose spaces with moveable furniture that can be reconfigured in various layouts to facilitate a variety of active, collaborative learning activities are a prime example.”

The building includes 21 general-purpose classrooms as well as four tiered classrooms that provide a dynamic experience for students. Each classroom contains a sophisticated Learning Technology System with multiple LED, high-definition display monitors that are strategically placed in the space, enabling faculty to share content with students. Additionally, high definition document cameras display full color objects and can be used as webcams to capture classroom materials and lectures.

The building also features a multi-purpose assembly space with seating for 120. TCC Theatre will hold productions in the space, and it will be used for lectures, concerts, meetings and workshops.
