Agreement makes it even easier to transfer from here to ODU
Tidewater Community College President Greg DeCinque joined three other college presidents in signing an agreement that eases the transition for community college graduates transferring to Old Dominion University.
The Guaranteed Transfer Partnership Agreement ensures the seamless transfer of students from TCC, Thomas Nelson Community College, Paul D. Camp Community College and Eastern Shore Community College to ODU.
“Old Dominion has always been the top transfer destination for TCC graduates,” said President DeCinque. “By collaborating on the Guaranteed Transfer Partnership Agreement, we’ve removed any obstacles our students could potentially face during the transfer process.”
The agreement also facilitates a reverse-transfer program that helps participants transfer ODU credit back to the community colleges, allowing them to earn their associate degrees while being enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program.
Glenn DuBois, chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges, supports the reverse transfer aspect of the agreement, noting, “This is something that all universities should be doing with their partner community colleges. It’s good for the individual and good for the commonwealth.”
ODU President John Broderick called the agreement, which was two years in the making, “a wonderful opportunity.”
“This is important for us,” he said. “But more importantly, it’s a key moment for Virginia students that are going to come through your campuses here and vice versa. And hopefully, some of that reverse transfer piece also helps you with those all-important graduation rates.”
