Office of the President

A welcome from Dr. Edna V. Baehre-Kolovani

Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to visit Tidewater Community College. We are excited about helping you meet your educational and career goals.

From its modest beginnings in 1968, TCC has blossomed into Hampton Roads' largest provider of higher education and workforce solutions. Our annual enrollment of nearly 40,000 students is the second largest undergraduate student body in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

I have found TCC to be an innovative and exciting place to work. We have many distinctions of which we are proud:

  • 12 nationally accredited programs of study that offer the Associate of Applied Science;
  • the nation’s first textbook-free associate degree;
  • licensed child development centers on all campuses;
  • dual enrollment programs in which high school students can jump start their degrees;
  • full-service student centers with athletic facilities on all campuses;
  • nationally recognized services for military-related students;
  • and much, much more.

We do all of this for our students. The college's motto is simple and direct: "From here, go anywhere." And it is true.

TCC provides affordable open-access higher education and training to people of all ages and backgrounds. Students tell me that, before they came to TCC, they never thought they could go to college, and before I know it I’m handing them their diplomas at commencement.

They go on to prestigious four-year institutions or into well-paying jobs in such in-demand industries such as automotive, maritime, engineering, information technology and health care. And three out of every five graduates leave here debt-free.

TCC is helping employers, too. Companies that find they need particular skills in their workforce know they can turn to us for customized training – nothing off-the-shelf or cookie-cutter.

The college is woven into the fabric of this community. In fact, it’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t have a TCC story. Besides our educational programs, the college is a cultural leader, with our Visual Arts Center in Olde Towne Portsmouth, the Jeanne and George Roper Performing Arts Center in downtown Norfolk, and the Black Box Theatre on our Chesapeake Campus.

TCC will soon be celebrating its 50th anniversary, and yet I feel that we’re just getting started.

We can help you get started, too.

Whatever your dreams, whatever your goals, TCC is here to help make them happen.
