Training in Tidewater Community College’s diesel technology program blends classroom theory, lab demonstrations and real-life skill development to prepare you for a career as a technician in the in-demand diesel industry. American Service Excellence (ASE) certified instructors ensure that you get the training you need on real diesel engines. And you’ll learn in TCC’s Regional Automotive Center, the region’s only high-tech facility for automotive training, which houses seven cutting edge automotive, diesel and marine technology training labs.

Focusing on the repair of marine diesel engines and vessels, this certificate teaches you the theory of marine diesel operation along with the latest repair and diagnostic procedures available in the industry.

Career Studies Certificate - Diesel Medium/Heavy Truck Service Technician

Hands-on experience will teach you to perform basic diesel engine troubleshooting on both mechanical and electronic components. You’ll also learn how to service and repair, as well as provide preventive maintenance and alignments on medium and heavy-duty trucks.

The Diesel Technology program is accredited by the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation.

The Diesel Marine Technician Career Studies Certificate is approved by the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) as a Marine League School. Manufacturer certifications from Volvo Penta are also available through the program.

Students seeking additional credentials may pursue the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) certification exams

A valid driver’s license is required for admission into the Diesel Technology program.
