Hispanic Heritage Month at TCC

This year’s national observance runs Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. 

Hernandez was an intern for the Arizona congresswoman when she and 18 others were shot in Tucson, Ariz., in 2011. He used his emergency medical training to help Giffords until paramedics arrived and later was commended for heroism by President Obama.

Hernandez will speak on Oct. 4 at 12:30 p.m. in Room K-320 of the student center on the TCC’s Virginia Beach Campus. A reception will be held at noon and a book signing at 1:30 p.m.

The son of a Mexican mother and first generation Mexican-American father, Hernandez is currently running for the Arizona State Legislature.

An advocate for LGBT issues, Hernandez is a former University of Arizona student and plans to devote his career to public service.

In addition, TCC will celebrate the rich and diverse cultural traditions of Hampton Roads’ Hispanic-American community with activities on all four campuses.

All events are free and open to the public and will be presented under the national theme “Honoring Our Heritage, Building Our Future.”

TCC’s events and activities, beginning Sept. 14 and running through Oct. 17, will recognize the spirit and contributions of Hispanic Americans not only in this community but nationwide.
