Practical Nursing Education Program

TCC’s Practical Nursing Program is for students who aspire to become a licensed practical nurse in only three semesters of study. This credential leads to more opportunities in the Nursing industry.

Practical Nursing Education Certificate Program

The Practical Nursing Education Certificate Program at Tidewater Community College’s Beazley School of Nursing is a three-semester program that begins in the Spring.

Students who graduate from the Virginia State Board of Nursing approved program can apply to take the NCLEX-LPN. Once you pass the exam, you will be Licensed by the Virginia Board of Nursing and referred to as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Tidewater Community College’s Beazley School of Nursing is granted Initial Approval to operate a Practical Nursing Education Program by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

This program is not Nationally Accredited.

Certificate in Practical Nursing prepares students to take the national licensure examination for practical nursing (NCLEX-PN). It is each individual’s responsibility to understand, evaluate and comply with requirements for the state in which they intend to practice as educational requirements may vary. When you apply to the program, please have all required documentation available. This includes your official transcripts from high school, and any college that you have attended that have courses we need to consider for your program (including Tidewater Community College unofficial transcripts), and the completed application checklist.

**The Nursing Division will not return official transcripts nor save applications from one cycle to the next.

PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT AN APPLICATION IF YOU HAVE NOT ATTENDED AN ADVISING SESSION OR HAVE TAKEN THE ATI TEAS ENTRANCE EXAM.

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

PNE Applicants: To fulfill the requirements of the application process; the following documents are necessary, and your complete application packet must be hand delivered to either Mrs. Lisa Prather-Betancourt or Catherine Fruit in the Healthcare Professions Building on the Virginia Beach Campus Building MW 307.

Deadline to submit all required documents to be considered for Admission is November 1, for the upcoming school year.

  1. Official transcripts from:

    ● High School or GED transcripts that demonstrates graduation.
    ● College/University/Trade School
    ● The Nursing Department does not require an official Tidewater Community College transcript; however, you need to provide an unofficial transcript for review.

  2. Passing National Nursing Program Entrance Exam: scores taken within the past 2 years: ATI TEAS Exam. Passing scores are based on the 45th percentile of the national norm each year.
  3. Copy of Professional Healthcare License/Certification if applicable (CNA/PCA/MA)
  4. Proof of attendance to the mandatory advising session
  5. Completed application check list

If required documents are not submitted by the application deadline, then the application will not be considered for review.
