TCC ranked top community college in Virginia by national website

Tidewater Community College is No. 1 among Virginia’s 23 community colleges in rankings compiled by the national higher education website, School.com, which praised TCC’s dedication to accessibility and commitment to military-related students.

“Tidewater Community College is a school that understands the range of circumstance that its students may be facing, so it offers life experience credit, weekend/evening degree programs and on-campus day care — the trifecta of amenities for non-traditional students,” said a release on the Schools.com website. “On top of that, it had the fifth-highest percentage of students who transferred to four-year universities and featured a rate of enrollment in distance education that was higher than all but four of the schools on our top 10 list.”

The website also touted TCC’s Center for Military and Veterans Education, noting it “works to assist veterans, active duty military and their families with the finer points of college life and post-service career transitions.”

The Schools.com study analyzed data from the U.S. Department of Education and Virginia Community Colleges, including cost of attendance, student-to-faculty ratio, average retention rate for full- and part-time students, transfer rate to a senior institution, enrollment rate in distance education and graduation rate. Using in-house metrics, the site ranked the top 10 schools in the state for prospective students.

Northern Virginia Community College ranked second and Thomas Nelson, third.

Schools.com strives to be a hub for higher education topics and trends by connecting current and prospective students with the tools, resources, people and schools they need to advance in life.
