TCC receives grant in support of On-Ramp program
The VCCS On-Ramp Program, supported by the Workforce Investment Act Rapid Response funds, helps dislocated workers who have been laid off due to a company closing, downsizing or eliminating positions upgrade their job skills through degree or certificate programs. Funding for tuition, books and fees is provided for those who meet eligibility requirements. The fundamental goal of this pilot program, which began in 2010, is to increase the number of adults who obtain postsecondary education credentials linked to in-demand careers, thereby enhancing their ability to improve their employability and earning potential.
“It’s especially exciting that the On-Ramp program has received this grant for the fourth year in a row,” said On-Ramp Coordinator Tuenika Wynn. “This enables us to provide education for so many who have lost jobs, allowing them to find new and rewarding careers.”
Eligible applicants must be 18 years of age or older and be classified as a Dislocated Worker as defined by the Workforce Investment Act criteria. They must select a degree or certificate program of study that is linked to in-demand employment opportunities based on Labor Market Information. They must complete the financial aid eligibility and not already be receiving a source of funding that covers tuition, fees and books.
