TCC recognized for best online interior design program

Tidewater Community College’s interior design program was named one of the best programs for online education by BestOnlineColleges.org.

A leading resource for online education, BestOnlineColleges.org, recently released its lists recognizing the best online programs in graphic design, biology, early childhood education, interior design, history, nutrition, math, criminal justice, human resources, sociology and special education. Data and surveys from programs across the nation were compiled and analyzed over the course of the 2012-2013 academic year.

“We are thrilled by this designation because it shows that our classes are meeting the needs of students here and outside of our service area,” said Jennifer Hopkins, program head for interior design at TCC. “Our online classes are working, because they offer another delivery method and enable students to continue in the program while balancing families and work.”

TCC began offering online courses in interior design three years ago. Current offerings include hybrid courses in IDS 100 – Theory and Research in Interior Design and IDS 206 – Lighting and Furnishings. Online offerings are IDS 109 – Styles of Furnishings and Interiors, IDS 120 – Estimations for Interior Design, IDS 225 – Business Procedures for Interior Design and
SDV 101 – Orientation to Interior Design.

TCC’s interior design program offers a career-aimed education for students seeking an associate of applied science in interior design. The 68-credit hour degree provides online and face-to-face training for foundational elements, such as three-dimensional drawing and rendering, furnishings and lighting options, interior covering estimations and advanced presentation and rendering.
