TCC to hold graduation on May 16

Tidewater Community College will hold its 60th commencement exercises on Saturday, May 16 at 10 a.m. at Old Dominion University’s Ted Constant Convocation Center.

More than 1,700 students will graduate with associate degrees or certificates. The ceremony will be streamed live here.

Sen. Mark Warner will be the keynote speaker. Elected to the Senate in 2008, Warner has been a champion for military men and women and their families, an integral part of TCC’s enrollment. Nearly one-third of TCC’s student population is affiliated with the military.

Frank Dixon, who earned his Certificate in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design Technology, will be the speaker for the students. Dixon, who received his Associate of Applied Science in Engineering last December, has attended TCC and Old Dominion University concurrently this spring.

Johnessa Richard, 17, is TCC’s youngest graduate. The Norcom High School senior is TCC’s first Governor’s Medallion winner, having earned her Associate of Science in General Studies at TCC while taking part in dual enrollment courses on the Portsmouth Campus. TCC’s most senior graduate is Lee Mindadkis, 74, who will receive his Associate of Applied Science in Information Systems Technology and a Career Studies Certificate in Network Security.

TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce solutions in southeastern Virginia, serving both students and local employers with more than 150 academic and career programs. It is one of 23 schools that make up the Virginia Community College System.
