Two TCC students selected to All-USA Coca-Cola Academic Team

Chesapeake’s Griffin Leach was named a Gold Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship. Suffolk’s Amy Nordmeyer was named a Silver Scholar and will receive $1,250.

High-achieving students are nominated for Coca-Cola’s Academic Team by campus administrators. An independent panel of judges reviews academic achievement, leadership and engagement in college and community service in making its selections.

A California native, Leach is a former member of the Hampton Roads Whalers, a junior hockey club. He will graduate in May with an Associate of Science in Business Administration and plans to transfer to the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce.

Nordmeyer will earn her Associate of Applied Science in Administrative Support Technology with a Specialization in Medical Administrative Assistant this summer. She plans to transfer to Old Dominion University to work toward her bachelor’s in health services administration. Her son, Alan, attends TCC and another son, Joshua, will attend the college this fall.

Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society recognizing the academic achievement of community college students, administers the program. More than 1,800 students applied for the awards. Fifty students nationwide are named Gold Scholars, and 50 students nationwide are named Silver Scholars.

Leach and Nordmeyer each have 4.0 grade-point averages. They will be recognized at Phi Theta Kappa’s annual convention April 6-8 in Nashville, Tenn.
